CityUHK inaugurates 10th Standing Committee of the Convocation (17 March 2026)
City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) celebrates the Inauguration Ceremony of the 10th Standing Committee of the Convocation on 17 March, marking a new chapter in strengthening collaboration between the University and its alumni community. Officiating at the ceremony, Professor Freddy Boey, President and University Distinguished Professor of CityUHK, welcomed alumni leaders and members of the University community, noting that the Convocation, a statutory alumni body of the University, plays a vital role in reinforcing the bond between the University and its graduates. He also highlighted the University’s recent achievements and developments, including that CityUHK being named the “Most International University in the World” by Times Higher Education for three consecutive years, underscoring the University’s excellence in fostering an internationalised teaching and research environment. In addition, the University has seen an increase in student applications, reflecting its growing appeal in attracting global talent. The Ceremony marked the inauguration of the new Convocation Standing Commitment, led by its Chairman Mr Gabriel Ho Kai-pong. Having served the Convocation for more than 14 years, Mr Ho brings extensive experience and strong commitment to alumni engagement and the development of the University. In his address, Mr Ho reflected on his personal journey as a CityUHK alumnus and emphasised the importance of giving back to his alma mater. “To alumni, the University is like a home—a place that stays close to our hearts wherever we go,” he said. “The Convocation will continue to connect alumni from all disciplines, engage young graduates, and support the University’s development.” During the ceremony, members of the new Standing Committee took an oath of office, as witnessed by President Boey, presented CityUHK ties and scarves, and pins to members of the new Standing Committee as a symbolic gesture of their commitment to serving the University and its alumni community. To express gratitude to the contribution of the 9th Standing Committee and Immediate Past Chairman of the Convocation, President Boey presented a token of appreciation to Mr William Khoo who has served the Convocation as Chairman for two terms from 2022 to 2024. The Convocation, a statutory alumni body of the University, serves as an important platform connecting CityUHK graduates, fostering lifelong ties between alumni and the University while contributing to its continued growth and advancement.
