I wish to sincerely congratulate our graduates for their milestone achievements celebrated at the recent commencement ceremonies, and warmly welcome them to the alumni family. Together, let us embrace new opportunities, stay connected, and continue to innovate into the future, carrying forward the CityUHK spirit.
Alumni news: Global outreach
Our commitment to connecting with alumni across the globe is unwavering. In March, we hosted a large-scale North China Regional Alumni Reunion Dinner in Beijing, welcoming more than 200 distinguished alumni and guests. On the same day, the School of Law celebrated the 18th anniversary of its prestigious “Chinese Judges Programme”, inviting esteemed judges and legal professionals from across the country to share their insights.
Another exciting piece of news is that we launched the first alumni lounge outside of Hong Kong in May. The Lounge, located at the Shenzhen Research Institute (SRI), aligns with the same welcoming atmosphere found at the Alumni Lounge that opened in January at the CityUHK International Centre on our Hong Kong campus. These lounges provide a space where alumni can connect, collaborate and unlock new potential. On the same day that the Lounge at the SRI was launched, more than 300 alumni from the Greater Bay Area joined a reunion dinner to honour CityUHK’s accomplishments and deepen connections within the alumni community.
In May, I had the pleasure of meeting up with African alumni residing in Hong Kong, reinforcing our commitment to supporting a diverse and global alumni network. A great university flourishes by attracting the brightest minds from around the world, and diversity shapes a richer and more innovative learning environment, helping students develop a more global vision.
Gaining global recognition
CityUHK’s recent achievements are reflected in our prestigious global rankings.

Also, in the QS World University Ranking by Subject, four of our subjects are ranked in the global top 50: Social Policy and Administration; Linguistics; Data Science and Artificial Intelligence; and Communication and Media Studies.

Forging global collaborations
Ranked as the “Most International University in the World” by Times Higher Education (THE) for the 2nd consecutive year, CityUHK is committed to enhancing global partnerships such as our collaborations with the University of Cambridge, including support for 18 postdoctoral researchers across STEM and non-STEM fields at Cambridge and four Colleges at CityUHK.
We have recently established a new strategic academic partnership with Ankara University in Türkiye, which is ranked second nationally. This university’s excellence in medicine and veterinary science aligns seamlessly with CityUHK’s academic development priorities. Moreover, this collaboration will contribute to global well-being under the Belt and Road Initiative.
As a forward-thinking university, CityUHK is proud to partner with THE in participating and hosting significant forums aimed at raising global awareness. For the 2nd consecutive year, CityUHK was honoured to serve as the sole Green Innovation Partner at the Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC), which was held in Istanbul from 16-19 June. The CityUHK delegation shared insight and experiences with global experts, scholars, and institutions in promoting projects related to sustainability.
Additionally, in response to the growing impact of digital health, we will host Digital Health Asia 2025 on campus from 8-10 September. This event, the first in THE’s Digital Health series in Asia, will be a platform where we will share insights and foster meaningful dialogue with the CityUHK community and beyond. Together, we will continue to push the boundaries of innovation and contribute to a sustainable and healthier future.
Enhancing innovative campus experience
At CityUHK, we embrace a unique approach to innovation and campus development.
The “Tunnel of Future Innovations”, launched on 21 May, is a distinctive landmark connecting campus and the community.
The tunnel’s debut featured Hong Kong’s first-ever tunnel fashion show. The 4K touch screen wall at the entrance of the tunnel provides interactive campus navigation. Above it is a distinctive glass ceiling ingeniously incorporating the CityUHK logo. Extending towards the CityUHK campus entrance, a 50-meter-long corridor with LED screens on both sides delivers an immersive and interactive digital experience. This dynamic passage can also be flexibly transformed into a multifunctional exhibition area. Check it out when you next visit campus!
I also encourage you to immerse yourself in the “Central African Art - Invocation of an Unseen World” at the Indra and Harry Banga Gallery's latest exhibition.
Thank you for playing such a vital part in the CityUHK family, and wishing you all a joyful and fruitful summer!
