University Announcement: In memory of Dr Tin Ka-ping 深切緬懷田家炳博士
In memory of Dr Tin Ka-ping
Dear colleagues, students and alumni,
The entire University community has expressed its deep sorrow over the passing of renowned industrialist and philanthropist Dr Tin Ka-ping on 10 July.
Dr Tin was not only a successful entrepreneur, but also someone who cared deeply about the community and supported education generously. In the early 1980s, Dr Tin established the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, whose mission is to support education to nurture talent, promote Chinese culture, and contribute to the community and the nation. It is also dedicated to supporting community service on the mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. Dr Tin was held in the highest regard for his outstanding service and many contributions.
CityU has had a long relationship with Dr Tin and the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, and has received many generous donations from them over the years. In recognition of their support and great kindness, the University named a lecture theatre after Dr Tin as early as in 2004, with a plaque engraved with his motto, “To help others, you are helping yourself. To help develop others, you must first develop yourself”.
While Dr Tin has passed away, his spirit of caring for the community and supporting education will continue, encouraging all CityU staff and students to continue to pursue excellence in teaching and research in order to promote social development and to continually strive to make the world a better place.
