Dear alumni,

I am pleased to share some recent exciting news with you. CityU’s Academic Development Proposal (ADP) has received very positive feedback from the University Grants Committee, based on which we were able to earn back all the 6% top-sliced First Year First Degree positions. These positions will enable us to offer five new majors in energy science and engineering, nuclear and risk engineering, bioengineering, banking and applied financial services, and criminology to further enhance CityU’s professional education and research. Additional positions for Senior Year students were also provided. We thank all those who have contributed to the excellent preparation and successful presentation of the ADP.

To enhance the learning environment of our students, four new buildings have been, or are being, constructed on campus and are expected to be completed by 2012. These are the Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre, Academic 2, Academic 3 and Student Hostel Phase 4. Together they will add 60% usable space to the campus, including a new 800-seat canteen, a 600-seat auditorium and 700 additional bedspaces for students. They will also add more “green facilities” to the University, reflecting our social responsibility efforts. Colleagues in the Campus Development and Facilities Office are working very hard to ensure the timely completion of these projects and to promote CityU as a low carbon campus. We should thank them for their efforts.

各位校友，

我很高興與大家分享一些好消息。城大的「學術發展計劃」獲大學教育資助委員會正面評價，並因此獲得全部回撥上繳的6%一年級學士學位課程學額。我們可以用這些學額開辦五個新主修課程，包括能源科學及工程、核子及風險工程、生物工程、犯罪學和銀行及應用金融服務，進一步提升城大的專業教育和研究。此外，城大亦獲教資會增撥高年級學額。我們感謝所有為這份出色的學術發展計劃作出貢獻的同事。

為了改善學生的學習環境，校園內有四幢新建築物已經落成或正在營建中，它們是：邵逸夫創意媒體中心、學術樓（二）及（三），和學生宿舍第四期。在2012年全部落成後，可為大學額外提供60%的空間，其中包括設有800座位的新食堂、可容納600人的演講室，以及700個新宿位。新大樓同時亦會為校園增添更多綠色設施，體現大學肩負社會責任的承諾。為確保工程按時完成，並營造低碳校園，校園發展及設施管理處的同事都在努力工作，我們表示衷心感謝。
