Dear colleagues, students and alumni,

$215m raised in Fifth Matching Grant Scheme

Let me begin by expressing my sincere thanks to the CityU community and our benefactors for their strong support in the Fifth Matching Grant Scheme. The scheme, which operated from 1 June 2010 to 15 March 2011, was open to 12 local degree-awarding institutions on a first-come-first-served basis.

I am glad to share with you that during this period the University raised $215m, the largest amount we have ever raised on this scheme. Donations made up $167m of that total, which is also a CityU record, and we are expecting a matching grant from the government worth $47.5m.

All the money raised will be used to enhance teaching and learning activities, promote research developments, and strengthen student support initiatives specified by the donors, including scholarships and academic exchanges.

What is particularly pleasing to note is that of the 3,300 people who supported us with their donations, many of them have donated more than once, and about 90% were from the University—including Council Members, staff, alumni and students—while the rest are friends of the University. We are indeed very fortunate to have a campus community that so readily and so generously supports and cares for CityU.

Building CityU into a great university requires unswerving commitment and dedication. I thank you sincerely for your generosity. Let us continue to promote a caring culture for the benefit of our students, the advancement of our University and the betterment of our society.

各位同事、同學、校友：

第五輪配對輔助金計劃共募得2.15億元

首先，我要向城大社群和捐款人表示最誠摯的謝意，感謝你們在第五輪配對輔助金計劃中給予的大力支援。這一輪計劃的起始日為2010年6月1日，截止日為2011年3月15日，涵蓋全港 12所院校，按先到先得的原則處理。

我非常高興地告訴大家，在這段時間裏，大學共募得2.15億港元，是歷次計劃中募得數額最大的一次。其中實際捐款額達到1.67億港元，也創下城大歷史紀錄。此外，我們有望從政府那裏得到4,750萬港元配對資助。

所有募得的款項將用於加強教學、促進研究以及加強各種由捐款人特別指明的學習贊助方案，包括獎學金與學術交流活動。

特別令人欣喜的是，在3,300位捐款人中，許多人捐款不止一次，而且其中90%都是城大的人 ― 包括校董會成員、教職員、歷屆校友和在校學生 ― 其餘的來自城大的朋友。能有這樣一個校園社群，對城大殷勤關愛、慷慨支援，令人深感有幸。

要把城大建設成一所優秀的學府，離不開每一位持續不懈的投入與付出。我誠摯感謝你們的慷慨資助。為了學生的福祉、為了大學的進步、為了社會更加美好，讓我們一如既往、繼續努力營造充滿關愛的文化。
