Chinese New Year Greetings from Council Chairman
Dear Council and Court members, colleagues, students, alumni,
Happy Chinese New Year!
The past Year of the Horse was a momentous year for us, being City University of Hong Kong’s 30th anniversary, which is a landmark milestone providing the opportunity to reflect on all we have achieved in the past, to celebrate the present and to look forward to building on our successes in the future.
At the beginning of this New Year, we are pleased to see the concerted efforts of staff and students towards advancing City University of Hong Kong’s academic standing continue to bring local, regional and international recognition. The University has recorded a rapid rise of around 40 places in the world rankings since 2008 to our current position around the top 100 universities in the QS World University Rankings. Our faculty members continue to receive prestigious awards for their outstanding performance in both research and teaching. City University’s ratings in the Research Assessment Exercise 2014 affirmed our excellence in world-class research. The University was also listed, for the first time, amongst the top 150 universities in the Global Employability University Survey and Ranking which demonstrates the increasing recognition of our graduates in the job market by companies globally.
In pursuit of academic and research excellence, new initiatives were put in place and collaborations with different parties were strengthened. Faculty members of the School of Veterinary Medicine actively take part in local and international veterinary medical cases and they are currently working on a plan for a skeleton exhibit of an 11-metre whale to be placed on campus. The Mobile Technology Festival was a great success and we look forward to more similar events to come this year, together with the newly established Innovation Commons which serves as an exchange platform for students with integrated interdepartmental and interdisciplinary expertise, offering information and consultation services about entrepreneurship and innovation, students are provided with real opportunities to create new knowledge and exchange ideas across disciplines for the benefit of our communities.
It was a great pleasure for me to be re-appointed to serve as Chairman of the University Council for another term. Early in this year, the formulation of the University’s Strategic Plan 2015-2020 will be finalised, charting the future development of the University. I confidently expect City University to continue to grow and prosper as it has over the past 30 years, and so further serve our vibrant Hong Kong community.
City University of Hong Kong is a youthful university that continues to evolve quickly, I look forward to continue working closely with all members of the University community, as together we maintain our momentum and embrace another new era of development for our University.

校董會主席農曆新年賀辭
各位校董會及顧問委員會成員、同事、同學及校友：
新年快樂！
剛過去的馬年，對城大而言是意義重大的一年。既是城大30周年校慶，亦是城大發展的里程碑，藉此我們可以回顧過往的成就，也歡慶今日的發展，更期待未來再接再厲，連創佳績。
新年伊始，我們欣見各位師生員工同心協力，推動我校的學術地位繼續提升，在本港、亞太區乃至世界各地廣受讚譽。自2008年以來，城大在世界大學排名榜中已躍升近40名，在現時QS世界最佳大學排名榜上，趨近全球百強之列。城大教研人員在教學及研究中持續表現傑出，榮獲多個獎項。大學教育資助委員會公佈的「2014年研究評審工作」結果，確認了城大在世界學術研究中的卓越成績。與此同時，城大亦首次擠身「全球大學就業能力調查」的全球150所最佳大學名單上，顯示本校畢業生在職場上日益獲得全球各地公司的賞識。
城大在教學及研究兩方面精益求精，不僅推出新舉措，而且加強與各方合作。動物醫學院的教研人員積極參與本地及國際的動物醫學事務，現時正計劃在校園展出一具長達11米的鯨骨標本。城大舉辦的首屆「流動科技節」圓滿結束，成果豐碩，我們期待今年會有更多類似的活動。城大不久前成立的「創意工作坊」，使通曉跨學科知識、具備跨專業技能的學生可憑藉此平台得以互相交流，並獲得有關創業及創新的資訊和指導，從而真正有機會跨越學科界限交流創意，創造新知，造福社會。
我很榮幸再次獲委任為城大校董會主席。今年年初，《2015-2020年策略性發展計劃》將最終定稿，為城大描繪出未來發展藍圖。我深信，城大必將一如既往30年，繼續成長而興旺，為充滿活力的香港社會作出貢獻。
香港城市大學是年輕的學府，不斷變革創新，高速發展。我期待再次與全體城大同人緊密合作，共同推動城大奮力向前，迎來城大發展的又一個新時代。
