Dear alumni,

CityU has achieved a great deal in the past thirty years, and our success is due to the rigorous efforts of the entire CityU community, including alumni, who have made a huge contribution to our overall development.

It was a pleasure to share exciting updates with you at “A Dialogue with the President” on 17 September in the new Alumni Function Room in Academic 3. The setup of the new Function Room marked a historical moment in alumni development as it signifies the recognition of our alumni’s contribution over the years. The keywords of the alumni spirit “Pride”, “Connection” and “Support” are now engraved on the stone plaque that was unveiled at the Function Room that evening. I was delighted to exchange views with alumni and so were my management team members who also attended the sharing. We discussed a range of topics such as the recent development of the School of Veterinary Medicine, internationalisation, student development, and contributions from alumni.

It was also a delight for me to join the Council Chairman at the inauguration ceremony of the Fourth Standing Committee of the Convocation recently. There, I was delighted to see former students from different generations and a multitude of disciplines and with a variety of skills and expertise mixing with each other, sharing memories and discussing CityU’s growth. Despite different ages, backgrounds and professions, those present were united by a single factor: their passion for CityU. This level of dedication is the foundation of our University and I would like to thank everyone who attended, in particular the members of the new Committee, who have pledged their time and effort for the greater good of CityU.

Our reputation as a university continues to attract successful pillars of the community who are more than willing to be associated with CityU, and who, as role models for our students and alumni, enrich our campus. This month four distinguished individuals including alumnus Mr Simon Hui Hing-tak, plus Dr Joseph Lee Chung-tak, Mr Armstrong Lee Hon-cheung and Mr Yeung Ka-sing were conferred the title Honorary Fellow in recognition of their distinctive contributions to the development of, and service to, the University.

What’s more, in November, three prominent personalities from a diverse range of fields will be awarded honorary degrees during CityU’s Congregation. They are Professor David D. Ho, Mr Raymond Or Ching-fai and Mr Yu Kwok-chun, and we salute them for their significant contributions to education and to the well-being of society. We are honoured to have them joining the CityU family.

My best wishes to you all! Way Kuo City Update Way to Kuo Blog
