學生罷課

各位同學、同事、校友：

就近日發生的事件，我謹此重申，城大支持我們的學生以和平方式對社會的未來發展表達意見。

學生在過去幾天的罷課行動中表現和平克制，城大表示欣慰，我同時讚賞學生對社會未來的真誠關懷。周末期間發生的對抗場面，無助問題的解決，我們對此表示遺憾。

今早（9月29日）我與城大學生代表會面，表達對學生的關注，並聆聽他們的意見，以及確保雙方保持對話。

今日中午，我亦與校董會兩位教職員代表會面，聽取他們的意見；並再次會見了學生代表，表達對學生的關注。

到目前為止，大學已採取以下措施，為學生提供支援：

- 擴大現有24小時熱線（電話：3442 8888）的用途，藉以為學生代表提供特別支援，如緊急查詢或借用大學的空間或設施。此熱線由副校長（行政）李惠光先生統籌。

- 為有需要的學生提供法律支援轉介服務，協助他們與城大畢業而願意為學生提供服務的執業律師聯絡。此服務由輔導長陳國康博士統籌。

- 至於為缺課學生補課或補考的安排，我們有信心教學人員會適當的酌情處理。

我們慶幸沒有城大學生在近日的事件中受傷。我將繼續代表大學與學生開誠對話，並在需要時提供適當協助。在此，我們呼籲各方克制，用對話及理性手法共同為社會的未來謀取福祉。

Student Strike

Dear Students, Colleagues and Alumni,

In light of recent events, I would like to affirm that CityU fully supports our students’ peaceful expression of their views on the development of our society.

CityU appreciates the way the students have tried to conduct their strike over the past few days in a peaceful and disciplined manner.  In particular, I appreciate the genuine concern and goodwill displayed by the students for the future of our society. We deeply regret the confrontations that happened over the weekend because they are neither constructive nor helpful.

Early this morning (29 September), I met with CityU student representatives to convey our concerns about the students, to further listen to their views, and to ensure our ongoing dialogue.

At noon today, I also met with the two elected staff members on the Council to listen to their views, and met again with student representatives to express our concern for the students’ well-being.

So far, the University has taken the following actions to offer help to our students:

- expanded our 24-hour hotline (Tel: 3442 8888) under the coordination of Mr Sunny Lee, Vice-President for Administration, to offer special assistance to student representatives who have urgent enquiries or requests for the use of University space or facilities

- set up a referral service, under the coordination of Dr Raymond Chan, Dean of Students, to connect CityU students in need of legal assistance with CityU alumni who are practicing lawyers and who are willing to assist our students

- reaffirmed our confidence in our faculty and teaching staff to use their discretion in making appropriate arrangements regarding make-up classes and assessments

We are relieved to learn that to our knowledge no CityU students have sustained any injuries in the recent events.

I will continue to maintain an open dialogue with our students on behalf of the University and offer appropriate assistance where necessary. We appeal to all parties to remain calm and to continue using dialogue and rational means to help move our society toward a better future.
