University Announcement: In memory of Dr Chung Chi-yung
3 March 2014

Dear colleagues, students and alumni,

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Dr Chung Chi-yung, GBS, who passed away on 2 March 2014.

Dr Chung was an immensely valuable member of the CityU community and the recipient of a CityU Honorary Doctor of Social Science award in 2004.

Born in 1920 in Hunan province, Dr Chung was an extraordinarily gifted educator who contributed enormously to Hong Kong during her lifetime. She trained in the legal profession, subsequently becoming the first female judge in China’s history, and she co-founded Shue Yan College in Hong Kong in 1971, a private university that has significantly broadened and diversified higher education opportunities in Hong Kong.

Dr Chung will be greatly missed and our deepest sympathies are with her family and friends at this difficult time.

Way Kuo
President and University Distinguished Professor
