Appointment of Vice-President (Research and Technology) and Dean of Graduate Studies

Dear Colleagues,

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Jian LU as Vice-President (Research and Technology) and Dean of Graduate Studies, effective from 15 November 2013. 

Professor LU joined the University in 2010 as Dean of the College of Science and Engineering and Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Technology of Compiegne and the Diploma of Habilitation from the University Paris VI (Pierre et Marie Curie).  He has been presented with numerous awards for his world-class research over the years, including the French Knight Order of National Merit.  He was admitted to Peking University in 1978 and in receipt of a national scholarship for studying abroad the following year.  He is an Academician of the National Academy of Technology of France. 

Please join me in welcoming Professor LU to his new role.  With your support, I am confident that he will help the University scale new heights in research and professional education.

A global search for the Dean of the College of Science and Engineering will commence shortly.  During the interim period, Professor Hong YAN, Associate Dean of the College and Chair Professor of Computer Engineering in the Department of Electronic Engineering, will be the Acting Dean, effective from 15 November 2013.

I also wish to thank Professor Horace IP for his dedication and contributions as Acting Vice-President (Research and Technology) and Acting Dean of School of Graduate Studies in the past year.

委任副校長（研究及科技）及研究生院院長

各位同事：

謹此宣佈，大學委任呂堅教授為副校長（研究及科技）及研究生院院長，任期由2013年11月15日起生效。

呂教授於2010年加入城大，擔任科學及工程學院院長及機械工程講座教授。他於法國貢比涅技術大學獲得博士學位，並獲得巴黎第六大學（皮埃爾與瑪麗居裡大學）博士後國家文憑。多年來，呂教授憑藉其領先世界的傑出成就，榮獲法國國家榮譽騎士勛章。他於1978年考入北京大學，後獲派前往法國留學。他亦獲選為法國國家技術科學院院士。

謹此誠邀各位同事歡迎呂教授出任新職位。我深信，在各位的支持下，呂教授將會幫助大學在研究及專業教育領域再攀高峰。

大學將展開全球招聘科學及工程學院院長的工作。過渡期間，科學及工程學院副院長兼電子工程學系電腦工程講座教授嚴洪將擔任署理院長，由2013年11月15日起生效。

藉此機會，我謹向署理副校長（研究及科技）及研究生院署理院長葉豪盛教授表示謝意，感謝他在過去一年的貢獻。
