Convocation SC Stories - June 2011 2011-06-01

Richard achieved a lot of his “first time” experiences with CityU during his presidency of the City University Philharmonic Orchestra. Under his leadership, the orchestra became the first local university orchestra without a music school to hold a large-scale classical concert – playing Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 at City Hall. Another first for CityU was organising an orchestra exchange tour with Tianjin University, which totally rocked the university’s tradition of exchange tours.

“Supports from senior management of the University helped me to inject more passion into managing the Orchestra and the desire to acquire more knowledge from the classical music,” he says.

His passion for music continues after graduation despite his busy day job. His musical talent was showcased at the Homecoming Gala concert held last December. For him, music is the common language to unite alumni.

Richard’s sports talent has also been fully developed at CityU through its strong culture for sports. He joined the Taekwondo class during his schooldays. Then this year he joined the CityU Delegation to compete in the “Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2011” and was the fifth fastest alumni runner in the 10km race.

As a member of the Standing Committee, Richard wishes to promote the Convocation to serve as a channel for alumni to know more about the University’s development.
