University Announcement: Message from the Chairman of the Council
2 April 2012

Dear colleagues, students and alumni,

I am honoured and take great pleasure in having the opportunity to serve as the Chairman of the Council of the City University of Hong Kong effective 1 April 2012.

After having been away for some 14 years since serving as a Council member, I am very impressed by the many significant achievements of the University in its pursuit of excellence and its contribution to higher education and the broader community. Under the leadership of the Council and the management team, CityU has not only been a breeding ground for creativity and talent; CityU also continues to rise in status as a university renowned for its research and innovation.

I am pleased to add my support to the re-appointment of President Way Kuo for another five-year term, and look forward to working closely with the members of the Council and the Court, the President and his management team in charting the strategic direction of the University. There are many exciting opportunities as well as a few challenges before us. I look forward to meeting with many staff, students, alumni and friends in the near future, and listen to their advice and counsel.

The University, though relatively young, has an impressive record of strong leadership and outstanding achievements. With the concerted efforts and continuous support of members and friends, I am confident that CityU will scale new heights.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our past Council Chairman, Mr C Y Leung, for his contributions to the University. I am also very grateful to our Deputy Chairman, Mr Raymond Or, for serving as the Acting Council Chairman in the past five months.

With warmest regards,

David Sun
